Helping Others is Great but this is what I want to do for local residents!

Kitchener / Waterloo, Ontario Canada only!

Derrick's Helping Hand

Since I have been working I have helped many different companies with their operational needs and learned several trades along the line of building repair and maintenance. It wasn't until June of 1995 that I became very comfortable with running my own business (Your Low Cost Handyman) where I was working with farmers and elderly clients to perform Repairs, House & Property Maintenance and Complete Renovations while keeping up with Lawncare and small Landscaping Projects and the odd vehicular repair or equipment tuneups.

It has been several years since I have done this type of work but due to the educational back ground and lack of trades certificates I have been trying out different avenues to making an income which has become a daunting task of unsuccessful ventures.

I have been very comfortable as a Handyman, Superintendant, and Building Maintenance in a Hog Barn, while working at Building Renovations for two previous companies I have learned skills of some professional trades but did not attend school to get any trades licensing. I have however done multiple interior and exterior painting, reinsulating, lawncutting and hedge trimming, pest removal, complete renovations and landscaping projects.  As my customer base grew to 68 during my 5 years of owning and operating Your Low Cost Handyman in Ridgetown Ontario near Chatham I started to help some elderly clients with grocery and prescription drug pickup and delivery services which expanded into building and painting supply delivery. I have even installed support rails for some that were hard of walking and required a cane or walker to get around in their houses which included assistive wall bars to get into the bath or shower and use the toilet.

I have currently involved myself in Affiliate Marketing to promote products of interest for Computer Enhancement as well as promoting Amazon Products and other services which include Local Charitable Organizations and Animal Welfare Agencies and their involvement of support world wide. Since making an income from home has been difficult to do from an on line prospective I am looking at where I can help those of you who don't have the time or are physically unable to keep up with your property maintenance and getting supplies for your repairs or even food and prescriptions. I have been involved with pick up and deliveries while running the handyman business and while driving Taxi for three years which included alcohol/cigarettes/snacks/groceries/prescriptions/auto parts/legal papers/other necessities. I am not driving right now due to the cost of vehicle upkeep and insurance but am looking to reinvest my income to obtain a vehicle and the costs, but do have an active drivers license (G) and have driven rental vehicles since my move to Kitchener / Waterloo. The public transit is available and I have knowledge of most bus routes although it is time consuming to get around I will still travel to your house or business to take care of your maintenance issues or provide the knowledge of repairs you require and take appropriate action to solve the issue.

Fixing or repairing an issue will be discussed and if it can be fixed without a tradesmen then we will get the supplies and required tools by picking them up or having them delivered. I am willing to do any work regarding property upkeep - (lawn cutting, raking, garbage, fence repair, window and door maintenance including lock replacement or broken glass replacements, interior/ exterior painting, eaves cleaning, hedge trimming, and other odd jobs as required. If you require moving of furniture or assembly of new lights or electrical outlets, plumbing repairs like a leaking pipe or tap even a new toilet seal or install new blinds it doesn't matter as long as the tools are available it will get done.

Major renovations are able to be done as long as the work is inspected if it involves electrical or plumbing which I have experience but am not licensed so the inspector will look over my work and pass it or show the necessary requirements to do and reinspect the work. I am knowledgeable in tear-outs, framing, plumbing installs, electrical wiring( up to the panel), insulating, drywall / cement board, ceramic tiles, some flooring (not carpeting or full room linoleum), electrical fixtures, cabinet installs, closet liners, venting, sound proofing.

All of these activities can be done for you should you require the extra help or simply don't have the time or are physically unable to perform these tasks. If you allow me to view your potential tasks and we sit and discuss how and when you would like them done then we will get the tools and supplies so that they can be handled properly and safely. Bare in mind that I will provide my services at the least costly methods which include work advice and discussion of the particular needs of the specific tasks and my rate for being paid will be half of which most Contractors and licensed Handymen charge. The specific tasks that require major work like renovating an attic space or basement will be thoroughly discussed and this includes whether a Licensed Tradesmen needs to be present for any electrical or plumbing changes and if the work involves any structural changes within the structure. For major renovations the city also needs to be notified of the job specifics so they may issue building permits should they be required but normally if the structure stays the same then no permits should be needed.

My Rates are as Follows

Tools and supply pick ups can be delivered or picked up with your vehicle (your choice) but I should have a prepared list of those needs and be present when placing the orders.

I charge $15.00 per hour from the time I arrive to begin work until I leave for the day, if a break is required for lunch then that time will be deducted.

For the initial visit while we discuss your needs and draft up a tentative plan I charge a flat rate of $20.00.

The tools and supplies which need to be picked up at the particular store will require my presence and if we use your vehicle the rate will be $8.00 per hour.

If I am required to use public transit to place the orders then that rate will also be $8.00 per hour.

When tools and supplies are simple to place an order by phone then there is no extra charge because when I am at your place where the work is being done the charge is $15.00 per hour but if we need to go out to get them the rate does drop to the $8.00 per hour charge.

As you can see I will only charge the labor but the tools and supplies each job requires is your expense and will stay with you because you have purchased them before the work starts. We will also need to agree on the hours of work each job will possibly take and if the job is a major renovation then I will work out a flat rate per day to keep the costs as low as possible. Small jobs like property cleanup, lawncare, hedge trimming, painting, or eaves cleaning and small repairs will all be charged at $15.00 per hour. Only the major renovations will have a discount on the labor charges.

Payment of small jobs are by cash daily and I will accept a check only if it is cleared the day it is written so I can go to your bank and cash it before the bank closes. All major renovation jobs will be paid at two day intervals and any bounced check will place you on a cash basis until the work is done.

Please give me a call @ (519) 745-7967 and we will set up a time to meet and discuss your needs.
